Moon Sighting for Ramadan on Tuesday in Gulf Countries

Muslims in Saudi Arabia,United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Gulf countries will look for the crescent moon tonight. If the moon is sighted, Ramadan 2018 will begin in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Palestine, Iran and other countries of the Middle East. The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has asked Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the moon of Ramadan 2018. Along with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the crescent moon would also be searched on Tuesday evening (May 15) in UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey.

Ramadan lasts for one complete moon cycle, which is usually 29 or 30 days. The moon sighting determines the duration. Nowadays, astronomical calculations have started taking precedence over the age-old tradition of moon sighting by the naked eye to determine the dates.

Special arrangements have been made and general appeals have been issued to the masses by the authorities in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states including UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Muscat and Palestine to sight the Ramadan moon today on Thursday May 25 corresponding to 29th Shaban of the Islamic Calendar.
